Observations: According to the editor of ISM IV, Emilian Popescu, the burgarii were recruited from the local population, and had the mission to protect the borders from barbarian attacks. They lived in burgi and they also surveyed the commerce with the nearby population. The author claims that they were public slaves or colonists.
