Rada Varga is a senior researcher, historian and archaeologist whose work explores everyday life, identity, and social dynamics in the Roman provinces. She holds a PhD and a Habilitation in Ancient History and specializes in Latin epigraphy and the study of individuals and communities in the Roman world. She co-directs the archaeological excavations at Războieni-Cetate (Alba County), the site of a major auxiliary military unit in Roman Dacia. She was PI of a Gerda Henkel Fellowship and a nationally funded team project focused on the material culture of the Batavian soldiers stationed there, exploring issues of identity, daily life, and cultural interaction on the Empire’s frontier. Alongside her archaeological work, she is actively involved in digital humanities, developing and teaching digital methods for the study of ancient history. She is the coordinator of the Romans1by1 project, which uses digital tools to reconstruct and explore the lives of people from the Roman Empire.
